A Tribute to a Teddy Bear Artist and Friend.Joe SoursJoe and Monty Sours, The Bear Lady were original Pioneers of the "Art of Teddy Bear Making". Starting to make bears in 1981. They even went as far on a dare to make teddy bears from scratch, dyeing and weaving their own mohair. Because of their unique approach of bear making, they have been featured in numerous magazine articles and books. They won numerous awards and nominations for Golden Teddy Awards and Toby awards. They donated their bears to many worthy charities through the years. Joe was quite, the salesman. He was a present at every show they participated. He was always on the lookout for good shows and ways to promote the bear industry and their bears. He loved to talk. He loved to talk to people. We share a come love, for being "frugal", long before it became fashionable. I will miss our "hour, plus" conversation. My first Bear Lady Bear was "Wally" Jr., Than a Llama, then I was honored to receive two of their "made from scratch" pieces. Dollmasters, often carried their unique critters. I enjoyed receiving their catalog just to look up their latest creations. Good News is that in Monty's email said that she will be continue making the bears and that she has relocated. Good Bye, Joe…you will be missed. The Bear Lady |
